Chinese Vertical Flute
or Xiao
Easily the most featured Instrument at
Cadenza. A simple Instrument, 6000 years old, yet its refreshing
bright tone heralds in a new age of music for the east and west
alike. |

The Chinese Fiddles or Huqin.
Comprises of the Gaohu (Soprano), Erhu
(mid-tone) and Zhonghu (alto). Its the string section of a
Chinese orchestra, and is the most well-known of Chinese
Instrument. Its melodious, almost human-like tone makes it a
truly impressive instrument indeed. |

The Chinese Lute or Pipa.
Classical and elegant fretted string
instrument played by pizzicato or plucking. A very prominent
instrument indeed, Expressive, yet delicate, its the perfect
instrument for light music and instrumental solos.

The Chinese Banjo
or Ruan
A fretted string instrument played
by plucking. Mellow yet bright. The Ruan is mainly used as an
accompanying instrument. However, it is also able to be played
by virtuosos as impressive solo instruments in concertos, making
it a very versatile instrument indeed. |

The Chinese Dulcimer or Yangqin
Traditionally a Turkish instrument, the
Yangqin has been adapted into the Chinese Ensembles 400 years
ago and has been a key instrument in keeping the tempo and bass
lines of Chinese music. Chief an accompanying instrument to the
main melody, its ability to be performed as a solo instrument is
exhilarating |

The Chinese Ukulele or Liuqin
Literally the "willow leaf-shaped lyre"
Its the highest pitched instrument in the pizzicato section. Its
shrill and melodious sound distinguishes it from the rest of the
group, making it one of the most obvious plucked instrument in
the modern orchestra. |

The Chinese
Zither or Guzheng
The 21-string zither or Guzheng is one of
the oldest plucked instrument, dating over 3000years. With
virtuosity, the sound of the Guzheng may be able to depict
cascading waters, serene country side, or even drums and even
birds. It is, however, a largely solo instrument. |

The Chinese Oboe or Suona
A double-reed instrument of Turkish
decent, introduced over 600 years ago. The soprano or
traditional version is sounds shrill and rudely loud to the
uninitiated, but for virtuosos, it is both expressive and
versatile. It orchestral version is about a fifth lower in
register and employs the Brahms's Fingering system. |

The Chinese Organ or Sheng
The reputed ancestor of the modern church
organ. This instrument is performed by blowing onto vibrating
free metal reeds. It is chiefly an accompanying instrument to
other wind instruments due to its ability to play chords, and
its ability to be pitch perfect. Its solo pieces, however, can
be as rich and colorful as the player himself wants it to be. |
